The Scientific Committee of the 21st Annual International Congress of the Asia Pacific Hernia Society
(APHS2026) to be held in Osaka, Japan in November 2026, warmly invites all surgeons, researchers, and healthcare professionals involved in hernia and abdominal wall surgery to submit
their work for presentation at the Congress.
We encourage submissions that reflect the diversity and dynamism of our field ? from clinical studies and basic science to innovation, education, and surgical videos. Accepted abstracts will be presented as oral communications and will be published in the official APHS2026 Congress Abstract Book.

GENERAL INFORMATION
- All abstracts must be submitted in English via the official online submission portal.
- Submissions are welcome under the oral presentations or E.Poster presentations.
- Abstracts must describe original, unpublished work relevant to hernia and abdominal wall surgery.
- The presenting author must ensure that all co-authors approve the submission and its final version.
- The Scientific Committee reserves the right to decide on acceptance as well as session allocation.
- All presenting authors are required to register for the Congress.
- Ensure that your abstract is grammatically correct and free of typographical errors.
- If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation, it means we have no record of your submission. If you are sure that you made a submission, check the email address that you used to make your submission or contact the Secretariat.
- Generic names must be used for all references to products or companies. Brand names may be inserted as a reference at the bottom of the abstract page. Papers containing company names or brand names in the abstract text may be rejected. The Scientific Committee reserves the right to replace any brand name with a generic name without further notice.
- Minor editorial corrections may be made by the Scientific Committee to ensure clarity and consistency. No major alterations to data, conclusions, or authorship will be allowed after acceptance.
ABSTRACT FORMAT AND STRUCTURE
TITLE AND AUTHORS
Provide a clear and concise title without abbreviations. Avoid abbreviations in the title. Titles shall be as brief and concise as possible, but with enough detail to ensure a clear understanding of the study context.
List all authors with names (limited to 15 including the first author), institutional affiliations (limited to 10 in total) with city and country. Identify one presenting author, whose email will serve as the primary contact.
TEXT STRUCTURE
Abstracts must be organized under the following headings:
Aim: Clearly state the purpose.
Material & Methods: Clearly describe your selection of observations or experimental subjects.
Results: Results shall be presented in a logical sequence.
Conclusion: Emphasize new and important aspects, perhaps as a discussion section, along with corresponding conclusions. Statements such as, “results will be discussed” or “data will be presented,” will not be accepted.
WORD LIMIT
Maximum 250 words (excluding title, authors, and affiliations). Do not include tables, figures or references. Define abbreviations at first mention.
KEYWORDS AND TOPIC SELECTION
Select one main topic from the list.
Include 3–5 keywords.
PRESENTATION FORMATS
- Oral Presentations (incl. video)
Abstracts selected will be scheduled within scientific sessions. Videos can be pasted onto slides. Presenters must attend in person.
Typical duration: 7 minutes presentation + 3 minutes short discussion - E.Poster Presentations
Accepted e-posters will be displayed digitally.
Technical specifications (format, resolution, dimensions) will be provided after acceptance.
Authors are expected to be available during poster viewing sessions.
REVIEW AND SELECTION PROCESS
All abstracts will be peer-reviewed anonymously by members of the APHS Scientific Committee.
Evaluation criteria include:
Originality and innovation
Scientific and methodological quality
Clinical relevance
Clarity and organization of the abstract
CONFIRMATION, REGISTRATION, AND WITHDRAWAL
Presenting authors of accepted abstracts must confirm acceptance and complete registration by October 10, 2026 (JST). Failure to register will result in the withdrawn of the abstract from the scientific program. Withdrawal of abstracts will only be accepted if notification is provided to APHS2026 in writing and subsequently confirmed by the Congress Secretariat. Withdrawal of an abstract is only possible up to 14 days after notification acceptance.
PUBLICATION
All accepted abstracts will be published in the APHS2026 Abstract Book (digital format).
Declare whether the submitted abstracts contain the conflicts of interest or not and funding sources must be disclosed at the time of presentation.
